scaile content decay report

Being cited rewards maintenance, not publication. Of the pages ChatGPT cites most, 76.4 percent of those with a detectable update date had been revised within the last 30 days, and fewer than 9 percent had gone untouched for more than a year. Content that nobody works on quietly stops earning, so we keep working on what you have already published.

How the refresh loop works

Continuously, on the pages that are worth it

Find the decay

We watch every published page across AI answers, citations and classical search. Pages that were cited and no longer are, pages that rank but are never quoted, and pages that carry claims which have gone stale get flagged before the drop shows up in your traffic.

Find the decay

Identify why it is decaying

The fix depends on the cause, so we diagnose before we rewrite. Outdated facts, a competitor that now covers the topic better, a structure that AI models cannot extract cleanly, or missing internal links to the newer parts of your site.

Identify why it is decaying

Rewrite the content

We rebuild the page instead of writing a new one. The answer goes to the top, evidence and sources are worked through the body, claims are checked against your documentation, and the structure is one an AI model can extract cleanly. Same URL, so you keep the authority the page has already earned.

Rewrite the content

Publish seamlessly

The updated page goes back into your CMS through the same connection we publish new content with, with the internal links and the structured data updated alongside it.

Publish seamlessly

Record the improvement

Citations, share of answer and traffic are compared before and after, so you can see what every refresh was actually worth. Pages that did not move go back into the queue with a different approach.

Record the improvement

Outcome

Your existing content keeps earning

Your archive stays current and stays visible, without anyone having to notice first that a page is slipping. It is the cheapest visibility you own, because the page already exists and already carries your expertise.

Frequently asked questions

How do you decide which pages to refresh?

By what a page is worth and by how fast it is slipping. Pages close to a buying decision and pages that used to be cited and no longer are come first.

Do you change the URL?

No, we update the page in place. The authority a URL has already built is the whole reason a refresh beats writing a new page.

Does this also work for content we wrote ourselves?

Yes. Most refresh work is on pages that were never written by us. What matters is that the page exists and that the topic still matters to your customers.

How often does a page get refreshed?

There is no fixed schedule. The queue follows the decay signals, so a page is picked up when it starts slipping and not when a calendar says so.

Do we have to review the refreshes as well?

Yes, in the same editor and with the same sources as new articles. Nothing goes live without you.

Can we start with refreshing instead of publishing new content?

Yes, and many teams do. A page that already exists, already ranks and already carries your expertise is the shortest way to being cited.
